Reviving Ruined Pompeii Frescoes
I’m a Print Designer who guides a curated team of illustrators to reviving designs and motifs from the pages of art history, re-engineering them for Fashion. I do this for fun and for a hobby. The result is a catalog of my study into these timeless works of art. I call this project: The House of Divino.
I take my time studying and gravitating to historic sources of art from various cultures, enjoying time in each culture I study. My entry to this realm of modern printmaking was through Neo-Classical elements which always sparkled to me.
And so I began my studies by looking into the Frescoes of Pompeii. Their colors and vibrancy, fantastical architectural visions and scenes were made to embellish the room a viewer inhabits and transform it into a world. Such magnitude and power to these delightful visions, which were ruined in the great eruption we all speak of. Luckily, saints through history went back to the ruins, and imagined what the original frescoes looked like, before the ruin. And thanks to their work, I have a color and base reference to further embellish with sources of detail I pull from all matters of books on the subject. I’m able to take the source, and re-imagine it for a modern audience.
It’s an apt exercise and something I do for pure pleasure. I’ve divorced myself from the societal delusion of what it is to be a fashion designer, and am doing things my way. What this simply means is I am creating a catalog of my studies into historic arts, and am leaving a trail of fashion behind to be ordered through the ages. My House will have every studied piece available for order to people of all shapes and sizes. I have made a size standard that incorporates traditional to plus size and presents them together on one scale. Each of my designs is fitted custom into the patterns for 12–15 sizes. I don’t want to leave anyone behind, or deny anyone the access to wear the beauty of these historic artworks.
